![]() BUTTING – Welding technologyAn interference-free use of product can only be guaranteed by an appropriate welding process. BUTTING has extensive experience regarding welding of stainless steels, especially in case of special alloys. Already in 1979 and because of our experience we were able to weld duplex steels in series production. All common welding processes are used in our production. As regards the pipe production from coil, BUTTING mainly uses the reliable TIG welding. If pipes and components without any notches are needed, for example in the food and chemical industry, BUTTING mainly uses the laser welding. In case of pipe production from plate, like welding pipes from plates with heavy wall thicknesses, BUTTING uses in addition to the TIG welding, the Submerged Arc Welding and TIG-Plasma welding processes. As one of the few pipe manu- facturers in Europe we can produce pipes up to a wall thickness of 100 mm by the Electron Beam welding process. The daily task of our welding engineers comprises the improvement of known welding processes and to accomplish new challenges. In 2003 we have paved the way for the production of riser pipes in API 5L X52 clad with Incoloy 825 for deepsea explorations. In this connection, BUTTING has used a modified Sub- merged Arc welding process for the first time. This is a good combination of cost effectiveness and technical efficiency. If you need further information regarding welding of stainless steel, we should be pleased to give you advice. BUTTING – Progress by Tradition |
